james T. curtis, President

Jim Curtis, a Licensed Site Professional (LSP) and a Registered Professional Engineer, is an accomplished professional with 25 years of progressive technical and managerial experience in environmental consulting. As President, he leads the firm's technical efforts and heads client interactions as well as assisting in overall management of the firm's operations.

With a background that includes project work ranging from site assessment, remedial design, engineering studies, research projects, regulatory expertise, public speaking, and program management, he is equipped to manage most traditional consulting assignments. He has also become the acknowledged authority on the Massachusetts Brownfields Tax Credit program.

Mr. Curtis has served as an expert in litigation assignments, has authored or co-authored three books and numerous technical publications, and has presented widely on a variety of topics related to environmental compliance, cleanup technologies, and the MCP.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Princeton University and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. In addition to his tenure at Cooperstown Environmental, his consulting experience includes 13 years with CDM, where he was a Senior Engineer. In between, he was appointed as MIT's Senior Environmental Officer and Institute LSP, where he served for nearly seven years.

Susan D. Curtis, Managing Principal

Ms. Curtis is Founder and Managing Principal of Cooperstown Environmental LLC. In this capacity, she manages the overall business operations of the firm as well as participates in client and project management. 

She has 20 years of experience in environmental consulting, with emphasis on hazardous waste assessment and cleanup, particularly with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan and NJ's ISRA regulations. She has substantial experience at numerous Superfund sites throughout New England under the EPA REM and ARCS contracts. Prior to founding Cooperstown Environmental LLC in 2004, she had been employed by CDM for many years. 

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Vermont and a Master of Science in Hazardous Waste Management from Tufts University. She was formerly a registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon, both national engineering honor societies.

Richard Gang, Senior Vice President

Mr. Gang has more than 20 years of progressive experience in the environmental, risk, and engineering fields, specializing in operational and enterprise risk management, environmental site assessments, remedial investigations, conceptual design, and contractual management on a variety of private and public sector hazardous waste and industrial programs. As Senior Vice President, Mr. Gang is responsible for leading key projects as well as coordinating oversight and the management of risk associated with the successful delivery of the firm's services.

Mr. Gang has managed numerous hazardous waste programs for various institutional, commercial, state, and federal government clients under CERCLA and the MCP, and has worked extensively on a number of flood control, land planning, and civil engineering programs for clients throughout the U.S. and overseas. In addition, he is experienced in stormwater modeling and system design, geographic information systems, and has been involved in extensive public process informational programs.

He holds a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Tufts University. In addition to his time with Cooperstown Environmental, his experience includes over 13 years with CDM, where he was a Senior Scientist, and 8 years as an executive managing operational risk for a software firm and a leading financial services corporation.

Willow Cheeley, RLA

A Registered Landscape Architect in Massachusetts with more than 10 years of consulting experience, Willow has produced design works for parks, schoolyards, campuses, waterfronts, public housing and athletic fields.

As an experienced CAD designer and drafter, Willow also contributes her talents in the production and use of graphics and spatial data management for Cooperstown Environmental using AutoCAD, Visio and other software packages. Her work includes designing plans and creating sections, producing diagrams, and creating presentation materials. Her work product is included in reports, plans and specifications for public bid purposes, as well as used for public presentations.  

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from Cornell University and a Master of Landscape Architecture from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY. She volunteers at Garden In the Woods where she pursues her interest in native plants, habitat conservation, and landscape ecology.

Sarah Holland

Ms. Holland is a Project Scientist of Cooperstown Environmental LLC.  Her duties with the firm include a variety of field activities including sampling and analysis, observation of subcontractors, and documentation of existing conditions. She assists with report production for environmental site assessments and MCP response actions including site history, site assessment, Release Abatement Measures (RAMs), Immediate Response Actions (IRAs), and Comprehensive Response Actions.

Ms. Holland is also a key member of the staff in completing Massachusetts Brownfields Tax Credit applications on behalf of clients of the firm.

Sarah has a dual degree in Economics and Environmental Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Jeanne Westervelt

Jeanne Westervelt is a Certified Professional Geologist with more than 15 years in the environmental consulting field. She has extensive field experience with site investigations including drilling and serves as the firm's primary leader in MCP site investigations.

Ms. Westervelt has managed and participated in a variety of hazardous waste site investigation and remedial action projects under CERCLA and the MCP. She has designed site investigations; prepared work plans, health and safety plans, and remedial action plans; and designed and conducted long-term groundwater compliance monitoring programs for both solvent and petroleum contaminated MCP and Superfund sites.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Bucknell University, has completed graduate coursework in geophysics, groundwater hydrology, and related fields at Stony Brook and CCNY, and earned a Master of Education from Salem State.

Annette Wilkinson

Annette serves as Office Manager for Cooperstown Environmental and is usually the first voice (with the English accent) our clients hear. Annette came to Cooperstown Environmental in 2008. She is responsible for providing administrative support to all projects and personnel. Annette also handles billing, Accounts Payable, promotional materials, and manages to contribute to project work on occasion.

Annette spent 13 years in the printing and direct mail business on the West Coast. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from London University, England. She enjoys skiing, ballroom dancing and history.

Dick Deveau

Dick has worked at Cooperstown Environmental for five years. Dick serves a variety of roles within the company. He conducts groundwater sampling, performs remediation system monitoring and troubleshooting, air monitoring, and leads the company’s maintenance program.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Dick served his country for 12 years during the Vietnam era. He was stationed in Alaska, the Philippines, and throughout Southeast Asia. His varied and interesting work history includes time at a copper mill, a bakery, farming, the Niagara Falls Water Power Project, a battery manufacturer, and most recently, many years as a troubleshooter at Raytheon’s Electronics Testing Department.

Dick spends his free time bowling and traveling. He was born in North Andover and raised in Haverhill, but has lived for many years in Andover, where he is on the Board of Trustees of the Ballardvale United Church.

Stacey Queripel

Stacey's work at Cooperstown Environmental LLC includes a variety of field tasks related to the firm’s MCP and other engineering projects including data collection, data analysis, and construction observation activities. Her previous engineering background includes experience conducting foundation design, working in a materials testing laboratory, and conducting computer modeling with a Boston-based national MEP consulting firm. Prior to that role, she worked as an Environmental Health agent for a Boston-area town.

Stacey has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. In addition to her engineering work, Stacey has worked in front of the camera in a variety of commercial ventures including still photography, commercials, movies, and television, most recently appearing in television's The Bachelor-Season 13.

Mr. Foster is a Registered Professional Engineer with over 5 years of experience in civil/environmental consulting. He specializes in site assessments, soil management, MCP deliverables, tank removal & installation and construction management. Sean has experience in the assessment of numerous sites as part of a major petroleum expansion program and served as project engineer for the new construction/remodel of fuel facilities. Mr. Foster also has experience in site engineering including: due diligences for potential projects, preparation of site plans for permitting and construction, grading & utility design, and bidding & construction support services.

Sean graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Sean is a member of the Boston Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and an active participate in the Younger Member Committee of the Licensed Site Professionals Association.

patrick wittbold

Mr. Wittbold is a Project Engineer at Cooperstown Environmental LLC. His duties with the firm include field activities including sampling, operation and maintenance of remediation systems, and project observation. In addition, he assists with report preparation and analysis of field data.

Mr. Wittbold’s previous work experience includes time as an environmental technician, where his duties included monitor well sampling, operation and maintenance of groundwater and remediation systems, health and safety oversight, and assisting with various engineering related tasks. Patrick has also worked installing solar panels.

Patrick earned a degree in Environmental Engineering from Manhattan College, where he was a member of Chi Epsilon, the Civil Engineering Honor Society, and was the recipient of the Lawrence Eckenfelder Award for excellence in Environmental Engineering at Manhattan College. Patrick recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering test to become certified as an Engineer in Training (EIT). He is a member of the New York Water Environmental Association and the United States Green Building Council.

Alexandra Testa

Alex is a summer intern at Cooperstown Environmental LLC. A rising junior at Tufts University, Alex is enrolled in the Civil Engineering program. Alex also competes as a member of the Tufts cross country, winter track, and track and field teams. Her duties at Cooperstown Environmental LLC include Clean Energy projects and her interests focus primarily on the benefits of solar energy. She attended Reading Memorial High School and enjoys running and biking in her free time.
